When will MLB.TV be Back on YouTube TV?
When it comes to watching sports on Opening Day on Thursday in 2023 on YouTube TV, MLB fans may be in for a rude awakening: MLB Network is no longer available on the streaming platform.
MLB and YouTube’s owner, Google, were unable to reach a deal back in January to retain the network on the YouTube TV schedule. Almost two weeks before the start of spring training, on January 31, MLB Network was removed from the service.
KnowInsiders.com will examine if MLB Network and MLB.TV will be available on YouTube TV for the MLB 2023 season in this article.
What you need to know about MLB Network’s inability to be viewed on YouTube TV on Opening Day in 2023 is as follows:
The removal coincides with Youtube TV’s first price increase in three years; the basic service now costs $72.99 per month instead of $64.99.
At the time MLB Network was removed from the YouTube TV lineup, MLB released a statement.
“YouTube TV has been unwilling to negotiate a fair carriage agreement,” the league said. “MLB Network has provided terms that are in line with the distribution agreements reached by almost 300 other U.S. providers.”
Unknown is the amount MLB requested Google pay to maintain MLB Network online or whether Google wanted to move MLB Network to an add-on service.
One of the drawbacks of cord-cutting is this. Multibillion-dollar companies aren’t especially fan-friendly.
As of March 31, 2023, there is no satisfactory response to this query.
For MLB Network to return to Youtube TV, either Google or MLB must blink. The social media account for YouTube claims that both parties are working to revive the network.
The good news is that MLB Network and YouTube TV are still in talks, as YouTube TV has repeatedly stated. YouTube said in tweets that it understood how upsetting the news was and that the result wasn’t what they had hoped for. We’ll keep talking to MLB Network in the hopes that their programming will one day return to YouTube TV.
At issue here is the price hike MLB Network wants. According to rumors, YouTube TV may have asked MLB Network to become a sports add-on and that the network wants a price increase. These reports, however, are currently just rumors. Details have not been disclosed, but both sides have said they hope to reach a deal.
However, we are unsure if MLB and YouTube TV will be able to come to an agreement prior to the start of the season. This kind of blackout is not uncommon, and in the past, it has frequently been resolved just before the start of the MLB season.
The MLB Network might never come back to YouTube TV if MLB and YouTube TV are unable to come to an agreement. Recently, there has been a lot of silence from both parties in these negotiations regarding the blackout, leaving viewers of YouTube TV in the dark.
The advantage is that MLB fans are not bound by a lengthy agreement with YouTube TV.
There are other options for cord-cutters to watch MLB Network.
With a DIRECTV STREAM, fuboTV, Sling TV, or Vidgo subscription, cord cutters can still watch the MLB Network live on Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and other compatible devices.
SlingTV and DirecTV Stream both carry MLB Network, as does Fubo, which also offers MLB.tv as an add-on. Additionally, Fubo provides a free trial to new subscribers.
Hulu + Live Sports and Youtube TV are the only streaming services without MLB Network in their channel lineups at the moment.
